What Past Attendees Have Said

I showed up to one of Oliver’s retreats with more anger than I knew what to do with, and I left without it. Three retreats in, I’m still struck by how thoughtfully he’s woven together the preparation, the group work, and the ceremony itself. This is not a day trip — it’s a real experience.
— Chris, on Retreats No. 1–3

I have been to every TGOD and each one has provided me with profound and unforgettable experiences that send ripples throughout my life. I consider The Gift of Discomfort to be a uniquely rare and extraordinary place for self exploration, growth, and healing. It has become one of the single greatest agents of change for good in my life and I am always waiting for the next one.
— Julian, on Retreats No. 1–4

This retreat helped me shine a light on them and realize that there was life beyond them. The community that I have built through the retreats has become a family. They have welcomed me into their homes, continuously are there to share not just the lows but the triumphs and successes.
— John, on Retreats No. 2 & 4

I was initially very hesitant about attending the retreat, and for much of the weekend I felt uncomfortable and resistant to being there. With the support of the experienced facilitators and meaningful conversations, I was able to push through that discomfort and leave feeling grounded and optimistic about the personal work ahead of me.
— Julia, on Retreat No. 2

The 3-day retreat created such an intimate space to really connect with others while also going inward. It pushed me to explore parts of myself that aren’t always easy to face, but doing that helped me better understand myself. Not everything that feels uncomfortable is a bad thing — it can actually help you discover sides of yourself you don’t usually see.
— Liss, on Retreat No. 3

The Gift of Discomfort retreat was life changing for me. From the moment I stepped onto the property, I felt supported and cared for. The sound ceremonies were incredible experiences, and the food all weekend was amazing! The continued community support after the retreat has been a blessing in my life.

This Retreat Is For You If

You’ve been carrying something — a transition, a question, a weight — and the usual tools aren’t reaching it. Maybe you’ve done therapy. Maybe you’ve read the books. Maybe you just know that something needs to shift and you can’t think your way there.

This weekend is designed for people who are ready to sit with discomfort instead of running from it. Not because it’s trendy, but because you’ve started to suspect that what you’ve been avoiding is exactly where the growth is.

You don’t need experience with any of our modalities. You don’t need to identify as “spiritual.” You just need to be willing to show up honestly.

THIS RETREAT IS NOT FOR YOU IF…

You’re looking for a spa weekend, a passive experience, or a quick fix. This work asks something of you. That’s the point.

Q&A

  • No. Many attendees are experiencing these practices for the first time. Our facilitators meet you where you are.

  • Yes — and honestly, it’s a good sign. The willingness to sit with that discomfort is exactly the muscle this retreat strengthens. We don’t ask you to be ready. We ask you to be willing.

  • Comfortable clothing for yoga and movement, warm layers for evenings outdoors, walking shoes, pillows and blankets for ceremony spaces, and ceremonial attire for Saturday evening — any color, any style, whatever feels right.

  • Most people do. By Sunday, you won’t feel like you came alone.

  • The $600 deposit is non-refundable. The remaining balance is refundable up to 14 days before the retreat. Within 14 days, we offer a credit toward a future retreat.

  • The property is rural with uneven terrain. Please contact us directly to discuss specific accessibility needs — we’ll do our best to accommodate.

  • Our chef accommodates all dietary needs. Please note any restrictions or allergies on your application form.

  • The property is approximately 90 miles north of NYC in the Catskill Mountains. Driving directions are provided upon booking. We can help coordinate carpools from the city.
